The programme

About the programme

CSSD Skills Lab Training is the practical course for somebody already working in, or moving into, a sterile services department: sixteen sessions at the bench, on the equipment, doing the work.

What the programme covers

Instrument inspection and function testing, tray assembly against a count sheet, wrapping and container systems, loading patterns for the steriliser, reading and releasing a cycle, and the traceability record. Each session takes one stage of the process and repeats it until it is reliable.

How it is taught

Entirely in the skills lab. Students work through the same sets the hospital sends, with the count sheets, the sealers and the autoclaves in use. Assessment is a full tray turned around start to finish, with the record filled in as it goes.

Where it leads

Sterile services departments in hospitals and clinics, and the CSSD Technician programme for a student who wants the certified qualification behind the bench practice.
